Re: VG in shared mode in SG
We have a similar config.:
2 nodes.
Oracle 8.
MC/Service Guard
But we don??t share VG, VG is assigned to the active node. This VG supports database tablespace files and Oracle software is on each node.
I Don??t know exactly what??s your problem, could you explain?

Re: VG in shared mode in SG
You must vgexport the volume group in shared mode + preview + mapfile, then vgimport the volume group on the second node before you can activate and use it in Oracle. It also helps to tar up the directory under /dev and un-tar it on the 2nd node if you have used non-default logical volume names.
Be careful with vgexport.

Re: VG in shared mode in SG
Are you using MC/Lockmanager / Oracle Parallel Server ? If not (and I deduce from the fact that you say MC/ServiceGuard that you do not) do NOT try to define a VG in shared mode. Your filesystems will be corrupted before you know it ...

Tom

Re: VG in shared mode in SG
Thanks to all for their help!
What I really want to make is to install Oracle Real Aplication Cluster (RAC) in a server hp9000 rp5470 with HP-UX 11.0 and Mc/SG 11.13.
but RAC demands that the VG is in shared way!
According to what I understood: should I install MC/lockmanager to make this?.
Thank you

Re: VG in shared mode in SG
It gives you the ability to provide SHARED Vg access, not just Exclusive acces as in standard SG.

Re: VG in shared mode in SG
if You are going to install MC/SG OPS edition 11.13, i suggest You to install patch PHSS_26928 and latest patches for telnet and arpa transport.
