1. Install OS,patches,software on rp7420.
2. Extend HDD-2 into vg00.
3. Mirror HDD-1 and HDD-2 in vg00.
4. Making npartition.
5. Boot two nPar, and change the bootpath.
6. Delete the failed disk on vg00.

Your procedure may work.
There is a toolset designed to replicate systems and supported by HP. It is called Ignite.

SolutionYour plan will probably not work. Ignite will. As the saying goes, the right tool for the job.
In this case that tool is Ignite.

I have tested. It works well.
The steps is blow.
1. Do mirror on one partition.
2. Split partition to two partition(nPar or vPar).
Notes: Don't split mirror.
3. Recover vg00. Kick the missed disk out of vg00.
4. reboot.
Everything is ok now.
