vgchange -a y xxx results in error about unique id

we are running hp-ux 11.00. I'm vgimporting volume groups for an EMC split mirror backup. When I try to vgchange -a y the new vg I get the following error:

vgchange: Couldn't set the unique id for volume group "A04vgsap1":
file exists

I've imported this vg to another server and everything is fine (Omniback is service guarded).

Thanks in advance.

You needto use the vgchid command tochange that unique id to something different.

Re: vgchange -a y xxx results in error about unique id

The problem was that the minor number I was using (which was unique according to the group files in /dev/*/group) was thought to be in use by the kernel. I changed minor numbers and all was ok.

Thanks for you help.
