I have an rx4640 itanium server with 2 internal disks (2 x 36GB) which I've used for the OS only, and 2 external 146GB disks which I am going to be using as mirror copies for data. (i.e one of the 146GB disk will be primary data disk and the other disk will be a mirror copy)
I am trying to create a new volume group on the external 146GB disk through SAM and I receive the error "VGRA is too big for specified parameters. Increase the extent size or decrease max_PVS | pam_LVS and try again"
The settings are as follows:
MAX PE: 35004
Max Log vols: 255
Max Phys Vols: 16
Physical Extent Size: 4
If I increase the Physical Extent size to 8MB will this suffice, or is it preferable to reduce log vols to 250 and reduce Max Phys vols to 14???
Many thanks.

Re: VGRA too big for specified parameters
The 'lv_max' value has the least impact on the maximum VGRA size. I would not reduce your 'max_pv" limit unless you are very sure that you are not going to grow your volume group long-term. You should also consider that you may (later) add larger physical disks than those you now have. In this case, you do not want to set too low a value for 'max_pe'. Therefore, I would increase the 'pe_size'.
The Software Recovery Handbook (chapter 16, LVM) has an excellent chart offering various values for your choice, if you wish to consult it:
