Virtual partitions on rp5470
tomorrow I'll testing a make_tape_recovery on an rp5470 machine.
My idea is to reboot all virtual partiotions following this order: shutdown -r now 3^ vpar, 2^ vpar, 1^ vpar beginin the boot process from tape and stop it after few second.
For shutdown the machine, there is a particoular procedure or is sufficent shutdown any vpar ?
For booting from tape, is necessary specify it at ILS> prompt ?
Thanks a lot.

Re: Virtual partitions on rp5470
In order to boot from the tape, you're going to need to interact with ISL. This means that you won't have any virtual partitions up, nor any information available about them. You will have to specify which disks you're going to do the restore to in order to rebuild the correct vpar.

Re: Virtual partitions on rp5470
as usual, thanks a lot :-).
Is correct to shutdown any vpar from the last one to the first one? And is better to restart the third partition, the second one and the first one ?

Re: Virtual partitions on rp5470
no reboot or shutdown is required for a make_net_recovery backup.
For the restore on the other hand ALL virtual partition have to be shutdowned (shutdown -h & then reboot complete server through GSP). When booting from an Ignite tape be aware that ALL hardware will be visible, so be extremely carefull not to touch any of the disks of other partitions. Good documentation (cfg2html) will be very helpfull.
good luck,
Thierry Poels.

Re: Virtual partitions on rp5470
(1) You need to perform a make_tape_recovery on EACH virtual partition.
(2) the order of SHUTDOWN does NOT matter
(3) follow the advice regarding not touching other partitions devices when performing the recovery. And the advice that all partitions MUST be down to perform the recovery.
(4) purchase the Virtual Partition book: http://www.hp.com/hpbooks/prentice/ptr_0130352128.html by Marty Poniatowski.
I met Marty Poniatowski last week as he was helping us with some vPar and nPar issues.
