Virtual partitions

We have a 32 way superdome in which 6 cells have been used for 5 partitions. I am planning to shutdown the SD complex for maintainance.

1. How do i know whether there are any Vpars running on a superdome nPars.

2. Procedure to shutdown and bring up the vpars.

Re: Virtual partitions

HI,
First of all, you have to shut every partitions:

#shutdown -h 0

On GSP, you have to check if all partions are shut by VFP:

MP MAIN MENU:

CO: Consoles
VFP: Virtual Front Panel
CM: Command Menu
CL: Console Logs
SL: Show Event Logs
FW: Firmware Update
HE: Help
X: Exit Connection

[mp_1] MP> VFP

After that, select S (All patitions), and check the situation.
If the cells are shut all, bring down the entire cabinet: go to CM menù and use the PE command for shutdown the entire cabinet 0.

After you had carried out your work, bring up first the cabinet, and later the singol cells whith PE command.

enjoy

Re: Virtual partitions

1. How do i know whether there are any Vpars running on a superdome nPars.

On each host you have on the SuperDome, run vparstatus.
If you do not have Vpar software installed, then this command will not be found.
If you do, it should report back on the variosu vpars running in that npar IF there are vpars running.

2. Procedure to shutdown and bring up the vpars.

Read the Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions manual available at:

Re: Virtual partitions

1. To the get the summary of status for all the currently defined vPars, use vparstatus command with no arguments.See man pages for additional information.

2. See below link for the detailed desc for booting vpars.

Re: Virtual partitions

Vinay,

the easiest way bof all is to use the vparstatus command on any of the active vpars in a given NPAR.

You can log on to a GSP and choose CO for the consoles. That would give you options to go to the NPARs if you have more than one you will see them all.

Go into each one of the npars and ctrl-a will help you toggle between the vpars login prompt.

If you have any one vpar up and running log on to it and check the vparstatus command to verify that the rest of the vpars are down.
I hope this helps

thanks
