I'm using HPUX 11 and DMX Symmetrix EMC.
I'm receiving some messagens in syslog.log like this: vmunix: ct_query failed. hw_path = 0/0/8/0/0 and I was studying here in ITRC but I didn't find one solution for this problem.
Follows attached the result of command:
#ioscan -fnH 0/0/8/0/0
Please, could someone give me a help because I didn't undestand what I have to do.
Thanks,
clefeitosa

SolutionA very common problem.
HP-UX detects the disk array itself as LUN0.
But its not a disk so it sets off bad disk alarms.
The way to make the issue go away is to have the EMC admin assig your system a lun as LUN0. Then the array itself will not be detected as anything.

Re: vmunix: ct_query failed. hw_path
Thanks for answer!
There is others ways to solve this issue? Because what did you recommend will imply in many things so I prefer don't do this.
So, in your opinion if I wont do anything I will have any problems?
Thanks

Re: vmunix: ct_query failed. hw_path
This is not an area I know too much about, but the attachement in the topic suggests to me that hpux does recognize the controller lun. For examle in the last line:
ctl 8 0/0/8/0/0.2.11.255.0.0.0 sctl NO_HW DEVICE EMC SYMMETRIX /dev/rscsi/c12t0d0
>> vmunix: ct_query failed.
Can you figure out when this happens?
- Boot only?
- Regularly (seconds? minutes? hours?)
- Every time the command xyz is used?

Hein.

Re: vmunix: ct_query failed. hw_path
I think it is no coincidence that this message appears every morning at 04:01.
Is that when the cleaning crew plugs in the floor wax machine? :-)
Looks for cron jobs around that time.
Maybe even set up a script to scan the log and do a ps -ef as soon as the message appears?
And uh... check with support both on EMC and HP side.
fwiw,
Hein.
