Re: vmunix: Disk at 10/4/4.0.3 is not responding.

Hi,
Output shows all the devices on that particular scsi controller as NO_HW. Try doing the following:

1. insf -e : recreate all the device files. do ioscan again to verify.

2. A faulty scsi cable, terminator. Try replacing with another one.

3. A faulty scsi controller can be the worst case.

Thanks

Re: vmunix: Disk at 10/4/4.0.3 is not responding.

The SCSI adapter card at hardware path 10/4/4 is in CLAIMED state, that's OK so far.

Based on ioscan output, everything that has been connected to that card is in NO_HW state. That is, the server thinks the devices have been unplugged. I assume these are external devices?

So, the first thing to check is that the SCSI cable from the disk device(s) to the SCSI adapter is firmly plugged in and the cable is not damaged.

Be extra careful with VHDCI-type connectors, if there are any: they are so thin they get bent very easily. Even the weight of a long unsupported cable hanging from the connector can bend or break the connector.

Check also that the devices are receiving power.

If that does not solve the problem, find a known good SCSI interface and try connecting the devices to that. If the devices are OK, then the SCSI interface card might be broken.
If the devices do not work with a known good SCSI interface, try the devices one at a time: one of them might have a fault that disables the entire SCSI bus.

Re: vmunix: Disk at 10/4/4.0.3 is not responding.

Hi Prasanth

Check if you can see the devices at IPL stage. If yes, it looks to be driver issue, if no devices are not getting detected. Check SCSI cable for lose connection, termination seating. See if the devices are powered ON

Re: vmunix: Disk at 10/4/4.0.3 is not responding.

Hi,

the message is more clear than many others.
Please check device, power and cables. I am thinking more about a problem with a bad cable that is inducing NO_HW status on all devices on that SCSI chain. Anyway if one of those is bad I hope you have support contract by HP in order to replace them.

Best regards,
Fabio

P.S.: as usual for other people I ask you to assign points about your threads and don't let this thread dies without a final consideration. Thanks for your collaboration!

Re: vmunix: Disk at 10/4/4.0.3 is not responding.

The other thing to check is the terminator.

I've seen a lose terminator cause a problem like this.

Best bet is to shut the box down.
Power down the cpu
power down the disks
check all the cables and terminator and reseat the card .
power up the disks
power up the cpu
