I recently upgraded a 'K' box from HP-UX 10.20 to HP-UX 11.00.
I have been trying to recompile the kernel with the following in SAM:
STEPS IN SAM:
kernel configuration --> Configurable parameters --> Action --> Apply tuned parameter set Select (GENERAL OLTP/ DATABASE SERVER SYSTEM).
I then receive the following error:
./vmunix_test: bad magic
My suspicion has to do with the upgrade to 11.00 versus the clean install of 11.00.
Any/all help will be greatly appreciated.
Andy

It is, after all, a matter of survival!!

Solution
Firstly check that you have enough space in /stand if you don't delete some old kernels or expand the space (remember its a HFS lv)
Secondly check that there is no vmunix_test before you go into SAM it maybe getting confused.

Minimum effort maximum output!

Re: vmunix_test: bad magic
There have been a lot of questions about upgrading from 10.20 to 11 lately and the consensus is it doesnt really work. You can try, as you have, but if you run into problems then trying to solve them will only lead to more and more problems. Save yourself a lot of time and clean install to 11. Not being able to build a new kernel in your case is pretty major. I recommend you clean install.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: vmunix_test: bad magic
As you are not actually doing the kernel generation at that point, I would try removing the file vmunix_test which is probably in /stand/system and trying again.
You could also try changing the parameters individually with SAM.
However if those fail, I too would seriously consider a clean install. You could be saving yourself time in the long run.
