[vn]par OS upgrade
Hey;
I've got two 8420s that are broken into two vpars one of which is partitioned into two vpars. To further muddy the waters, all six partitions as well as another 4440 are all part of the same MCSG cluster.
My client has a requirement to upgrade the running vpar from 11.11 to 11.23. Obviously, since this is an MCSG cluster, everything else will have to upgrade as well.
I am reasonably familiar with MCSG; however, only peripherally familiar with HP's paritioning s/w. In fact, my only exposure to it was sitting side saddle w/another admin while these two 8420s were partitioned. Unfortunately, that other admin is no more.
My very strong preference is for a cold OS install. I am very familiar with the process for upgrading a normal system in such as manner; however, I'm a little concerned with the partitioned systems.
Is there a documented procedure somewhere for OS upgrades of vpars and npars? I'd appreciate any information.
Thanks for your time and help.

Re: [vn]par OS upgrade
Just to demonstrate my lack of experience, I screwed up the terminology:
Each 8420 is broken into two npars. One npar on each system is broken into two vpars... It's the running npar that needs to be upgraded which will force the upgrade of all partitions...
Sorry for the confusion...

Re: [vn]par OS upgrade
First point is that if you have Vpars on an Npar, you upgrade the Vpars, as the Npar just "houses" the Vpars.
Second point is that if you upgrade one Vpar to 11.23, you have to update any other Vpars in the same Npar, but if there are other Vpars in the 2nd Npar, these do not have to be updated, unless this is part of the plan.
Updating to 11.23 will also require you to update to Vpars A.04.01.
I recommend you take a read of the following documents:
http://docs.hp.com/en/6768/T1335-90036.pdf
http://docs.hp.com/en/6769/T1335-90038.pdf
particulary page 81 onwards

Re: [vn]par OS upgrade
Hi Doug,
With serviceguard if you have the version Serviceguard Version A.11.16 or higher you can use this also on the hp.ux 11iv2 if not you also have to upgrade mc-serviceguard.
My suggestion would be first upgrade mc-serviceguard then the os. If you choose to do a cold installation. Make sure you backup al your data of the running cluster.
Also upgrade one rp8420 first and see if it work in the correct way.
Here are 2 links wich are usefull.
