Volume group and miroring with Smart Array6402 Contoller

Hi,

I Have An integrated Smart Array6402 Contoller card to a HP rp3440 Server and an MSA30 for external Storage. I want disks on the MSA30 in RAID 1. Is it possible to configure more than One mirrored Disk in a save volume group ? .

EG: disk1 is mirrored on diskX
disk2 is mirrored on diskY

Could disk1 and disk2 belonged to the save volume group (vg01) ?

Yes!

See this example:

To create a RAID 1+0 logical drive to include physical drives 4:0 and
4:1 and spare drive 4:2 -

/opt/raidsa/bin/saconfig /dev/ciss5 -R 1+0 -p 4:0 -p 4:1 -s 4:2

This will result in a new logical drive and a new device file.

Now you can create a volume group using this LUN. If you create another LUN, you may extend the existing VG with this LUN (vgextend).

Disks on the MSA30 will have to be mirrored using software. The MSA-30 is a SCSI device and has no built in hardware raid as far as I know.

This will require mirror/ux

It is with software raid possible to configure as many mirrored disks as you wish.

Note that the smartarray has hardware mirroring which should have been configured before the OS was installed. That raid is transparent to the system.
