We want to run different applications for 2 different team on a single server. We want to maintain independency with regard to patching and rebooting of the os running the application by both the team.
Keeping this in mind it seems to me vPAR is only option compared to WLM. (I am not cosidering nPAR now).
We have 9000/800/N4000-55, 9000/800/N4000-55 and 9000/800/L3000-8x model machines running hpux 11.00.
We are going upgrade os to hpux 11.11i on these boxes.
Is it a good and feasible idea ?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shiv

SolutionBy design this is what virtual partitioning is all about. If you want a management brief, see here:

Re: vPAR and WLM question
WLM is a workload resource management tool inside an OS instance, and also across Vpars, moving CPU's around where needed.
Vpars allows you to create individual virtual hosts on a supported hardware platform, each of which is individually bootable, tuneable, patchable etc. On these OS instances you can then use PRM, WLM etc.
You MUST have at least HP-UX 11.11, and I recommend you read the manuals for Vpars available at:

Re: vPAR and WLM question
I use vpar in few systems, they are very good and reliable too.
Never had problems in doing any patching for so.
Only thing you need to worry is on Single Point Failure.
I recon, use your main partition for Production application, then vpars for dev/test.
