vparboot using TAPE

I'm trying to boot one vpar from another using a tape device. Is the tape device I use the one from the active vpar or the one from the down one? I have read the man pages and its not very clear. Also, exactly what does the cold install option do on a VPARBOOT?

I have a LIVE running vpar (vpar0) and I'm trying to build the other one (vpar1) from an ignite tape taken from a different vpar (vapr2)

Re: vparboot using TAPE

Shalom,

The tape drive must be part of the vpar you are booting and not shared or part of any other vpar. Then a boot OS install should be possible in the vpar so long as the guest OS is supported.

Every time I've sat in a lab, the vpar's we used were the exact same OS as the host.

If you are getting an error, can you post it?

Re: vparboot using TAPE

Hi,

this works only with a PA-RISC system at this time.
You mast have at least version A.03.03 (or even 03.02?).

You need to assign the tape to the vPar you want to boot and issue the boot process from another running vpar:

vparboot -p name -TAPE

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: vparboot using TAPE

Example how to add the tape to the vpar:

# vparmodify -p winona2 -a io:1/0/14/0/0/4/0.5.0:TAPE

To boot from tape:

winona1# vparboot -p winona2 -B TAPE

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: vparboot using TAPE

Thanks to both of you. I had the hardware address wrong for the tape device hence the reason I was getting issues.
