Hi,
We have a superDome with 2 npars, that on 1 npar there are 5 vpars.
when we issued the command :
vparmodify -p -d cpu::1

it worked fine.

but when we tried to return back the cpu:

vparmodify -p -a cpu::1
we recieved th error :
ERROR: The following low-level error occurred:

CIM_ERR_INVALID_CLASS: The specified class does not exist: "HP_NParLocalPartition"
vparmodify: Error: iCAP failed to authorize addition of 1 cpu(s)

Do you have iCOD (instant Capacity On Demand) on your'Dome? It is possible your vPars is not playing fine with iCOD. Check your contract and check with HP. If you're fine with your iCOD setup.. raise an issue with HP support.

thanks Nelson,

Re: vparmodify on ia64 SD64A

This looks like either you have a hardware issue, or possibly your cimserver is not working.
Try doing :
cmprovider -ls
If this timesout, then check for a cimserver proces using ps.
If not there, then restart the cimserver and try again
One question to ask is did thios ever work?
If so, what has changed?

Re: vparmodify on ia64 SD64A

Hi Melvyn,

this is the output i get from /opt/wbem/bin/cimprovider -ls :

MODULE STATUS
OperatingSystemModule OK
ComputerSystemModule OK
ProcessModule OK
IPProviderModule OK
DNSProviderModule OK
NTPProviderModule OK
NISProviderModule OK
SDProviderModule OK
IOTreeModule OK
HP_NParProviderModule OK
HP_VParProviderModule OK
HPUXLANProviderModule OK
HP_iCODProviderModule OK

these are the processes from ps -ef|grep cim :
root 1581 1 0 12:08:16 ? 4:05 /opt/wbem/sbin/cimserver
root 1583 1581 0 12:08:18 ? 0:00 /opt/wbem/sbin/cimservera
root 3152 1 0 12:09:00 ? 0:00 /opt/wbem/sbin/cimserverd

As for your question, I don't recall that it was tried before,but the project required that option to move cpu's from vpar to vpar as we granted them that option with sudo on another server ( rp8400 ).

on the other partition it's version 2 (11.11) and on the SD it's version 4 (11.23).

in the partition were 8 cpu's, I used the conmmand vparmodify -p -m cpu::7 ( to reduce 1 cpu, and then vparmodify -p -m cpu::8 , it works on the rp8400, should it work the same on the SD?

thanks,

Re: vparmodify on ia64 SD64A

Hi

I use in SD:

vparmodify -p -d cpu::1 ( to reduce 1 cpu) or vparmodify -p -a cpu::1 ( to add 1 cpu)

Re: vparmodify on ia64 SD64A

Hi Carios,

Have you ever tried to move cpu's with the -m
( modify) flag? and not with the -d -a ?
