Is it possible to create VPARS on a RP4410? I just need to do some testing in isolated environments. I am not sure if I can split a 4410 into two. Any input would be most appreciated.

Re: VPARS on RP4410 Possible?
Well yes & no.
Yes in that you can run vPar SW.
And no in that CPU & slot count will be prohibitive. Max 4 CPU & 6 PCI slots.
You could only run 2 vPars because you can't split a multi-core CPU.
A rp4440 can go up to 8 CPU (4 multi-core chips) so it could go to max 4 vPar - but then the slot count becomes the limiter. You'd have to use multi-function boards exclusively.

Jeff

Re: VPARS on RP4410 Possible?
I have a few of the Combo Cards and comfortable with the I/O. I am OK with 2 VPARS to do my testing. It is worth starting the try, right?

Re: VPARS on RP4410 Possible?
My enterprise has put the vPar floor on the rp4440 mainly because of slot count & then the max is 3. Gives us 2 slots per vPar that way.

Re: VPARS on RP4410 Possible?
Is the cache being split across 2 CPUs or all 4 of them?

Here's the same info for 11iv1 (11.11):

Re: VPARS on RP4410 Possible?
Cannot & supported are two totally different concepts.
They say you "can't" load 11.23 PA on a 700 series system - I've seen it done. It won't be supported, but that's not the same thing.
Heck - If you can load it on old L-class firmware......
Where's Rick Jones' famous quote when you need it?
SO the deal is Kennedy, if it *must* be supported then don't do it. If you're wanting to experiment, I'd say go for it. Just don't put it into production - but who would? vPar is just not "made" for prod for any model system - only Dev & test envs IMO.
My 2 cents,
Jeff
