Re: Vxfs fsadm problem

Vxfs fsadm problem

Hi,

I have a 10.20 system with OnlineJFS, I have
noticed that if you try to exntend a full filesystem with fsadm if fails with the
error code "16". Does any one know the
maximum percent value a filesystem can be
full before fsadm fails to extend.

A value of 20% full has been working on
filesystems not larger than 5Gb for me, but it does not seem to work for lager filesystem sizes.

In order to extend the filesystem OnlineJFS needs a little room to work, so free up some space first then you will be able to extend it ok. You shouldnt need to free up much space, just reducing the fs to around 95-98% full should be sufficient to allow you to extend it.

Hi:

I agree with Stefan. Try, also, running fsadm with the options to degragment directories and extents first. Then retry the extend.

# fsadm -d
# fsadn -e

Stefan:

Check document #KBRC00002202. If you have a snapshot filesytem mounted, Error-16 will be returned.

I would also make sure you have current patches. PHKL_18914 corrected some inabilities to extend.

Re: Vxfs fsadm problem

You must have space on a vxfs filesystem to administrate it. 2% available space will typically give you enough to work on it.
