vxupgrade to version 4 layout from version 3.
Hi
I am intending to install JFS 3.3 on HP-UX 11.00 OS and then Online JFS 3.3. I have read the installtion/release notes for these products and have ensured the correct patches etc are installed.
After the install I am intending to upgrade all the non-OS Filesystems to version 4 and have read the man page for vxupgrade.
Is there any issues/potential problems with upgrading to version 4 from version 3. Most of the filesystems I upgrade will be oracle filesystems.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Con

Re: vxupgrade to version 4 layout from version 3.
Sound like you're well prepared :) Yes ONLY on non-OS filesystem. I have only one "gotcha". Before you upgrade make sure you have some free space left on your filesystem because vxupgrade actually would need some space to do it's "calculation" , etc, etc. I have had vxupgrade failed on me on a 95% full filesystem. So I lvextended my LV so that it's at 90% and give vxupgrade another try and it was happy.

Re: vxupgrade to version 4 layout from version 3.
I have an Online JFS 3.3 installed on HPUX11.11. Is saw a problem increasing size of an mounted filesystem online. This was before i upgraded its layout to version 4. I did the upgrade (had no problem with it, and it was pretty fast). After the upgrade the increasing of the filesystem size worked without any problem.

Re: vxupgrade to version 4 layout from version 3.
Only gotchas that I am aware:
* Ignite/UX and OS installer do not like dealing with Version 4 layout which is why you should not use this on OS disks.
* You would not be able to export/import these file systems to systems that do not have JFS 3.3 loaded - (i.e. any 10.20 systems or 11.00 systems without JFS 3.3 installed)
* Ran into an issue with Omniback generating errors restoring data from a Version 4 to a Version 3 file system, but these were just "false errors" about ACLs.
