VxVM DMP versus SecurePath(AutoPath) on the XP Array

Planning to get an XP1024/12000 soon as replacement storage for the problematic EVA 5000's (HP-UX11i Environments). And while waiting for our HP Rep for answers, I thought I'd pose these questions as well on ITRC:

1. How does VxVM DMP compare with AutoPath (or SeurePath)?
2. Does SecurePath (or AutoPath) come free with the XP? Is it expensive?
3. Does BusinessCopy/XP require AutoPath?
4. Does BusinessCopy/XP support VxVM as HP-UX's volume manager?
5. Does BusinessCopy/XP support PVLINKS?

Thanks!

Re: VxVM DMP versus SecurePath(AutoPath) on the XP Array

Hi Nelson,

1. How does VxVM DMP compare with AutoPath (or SeurePath)?
A. They are similar, SecurePath has a few more load balancing options. I personally have not done any benchmarking, but SecurePath works at the driver level and is version specific to the XP. It should be more efficient.

2. Does SecurePath (or AutoPath) come free with the XP? Is it expensive?
A. I can't give you any pricing information, but it has a per host licensing model similar to VxVM: see
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11402_div/11402_div.html

3. Does BusinessCopy/XP require AutoPath?
A. No. You can choose to bypass SecurePath entirely, or you can use it - up to you.

4. Does BusinessCopy/XP support VxVM as HP-UX's volume manager?
A. Yes. But I would recommend that you purchase the full license for ease of admin.

5. Does BusinessCopy/XP support PVLINKS?
A. I assume you mean under LVM? Yes, but to the LVM maximum of 4/PV.

Hope this helps
