Warnings in swagent.log
Hi,
I recently downloaded patches for HP-Unix 11.0 from the ITRC. I downloaded the patches via the FTP script which gets the patch list one by one from ftp.itrc.hp.com. Once I finished downloading, I ran the script "create_depot_hp-ux_11". However, in the swagent.log, I can see several WARNINGS for some of the patches. Here is an excerpt of the warnings:
**********************************************
NOTE: The filesystems in the filesystem table will not be checked
against those currently mounted because the
"mount_all_filesystems" option is set to "false".
* Reading source for file information.
The prerequisite "PHKL_18543.CORE2-KRN,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32"
for fileset "PHKL_26339.CORE2-KRN,r=1.0" cannot be
successfully resolved.
WARNING: The dependencies for fileset "PHKL_26339.CORE2-KRN,r=1.0"
cannot be resolved (see previous lines).
The operation on this fileset will still be attempted even
though there are unresolved dependencies because the
"enforce_dependencies" option is set to "false".

successfully resolved.

However, when I checked the "XXXXXX.fs" file generated by the "cmp_collect.sh" script, I can find the following entries:
********************************************
PUADPHKL_18543030901configured HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64

**********************************************
How do I proceed from this? Should I go ahead and run swinstall and just ignore the warnings?

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
Make sure you have an ignite backup (preferably two) before you install any PHKL patches.
Assuming PHKL_18543 is one of the patches in your bundle you should be safe to proceed provided you have set enforce dependencies to yes. If the warning message bothers you, you can always install this patch first: I suspect it doesn't depend on the others, as it is referred to as a "prerequesite" rather than a "corequesite".

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
you could also dowload the missing dependencies patches and include them in the depot. After that you can start with the installation. Those patches will not be installed again if you already have them on the system.

Borislav

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
When I uploaded my system information, this patch was not included in the patch list generated by ITRC, so will it be fine to include it in the patch list? This is my first time installing patches and Im not really sure...
Thanks!

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
I was able to find the missing dependency in ITRC, but when I added it to the patch list, it created another section with 7 items. So there are 2 sections now in the patch list, one for the patch list suggested by ITRC based on my system info and another one exclusively for PHKL_18543 (which is supposed to be the missing patch). So I think I should install PHKL_18543 first?
By the way, based on my system info, PHKL_18543 is already found in my system (please see my original posting)..this is why Im not sure how safe it is to re-install it again...
Thanks!

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
If it is already installed, then those patches that depend on it will install properly. I suspect it isn't showing up because it was installed as part of a bundle - happens to me all the time, and installation still works.

Re: Warnings in swagent.log
Before you proceed, check for patch PHCO_27779 (check_patches, patch white paper patch). Do not use previous versions because it has specific checks for PHKL_18543.
# check_patches
A report will be written to /tmp, ignore it. It's a summary. Instead check the /var/adm/sw/swagent.log for details.
It will identify problems with your patches. Fix everything that may be wrong according to the swagent.log. Once it has been corrected, apply the rest of your patches.
