Re: what are the proper steps to connect a fibre channel card?
Hi,
If you are talking about installing a card then simply install it in some free compatible slot and check wheather it gets sensed. Usually system should be powered off while installing this card but now a days we have hot pluggable cards also available. Then on system boot you can check wheather it has got sensed and has got device files created. It actually depends on your system/ card also.
Please post system model /card model no. and any specific problem faced.

Hi,
If you are installing a new adaptor, you need to install the driver from apps CD.

Re: what are the proper steps to connect a fibre channel card?
The first thing I would do...is confirm that the card is the right one for the box and is compatable for what you intend to use it for. Yep...that first.
Then as they said, just shutdown the box and have it installed in an open slot.
Turn the box back on, and it will check itself for any new hardware.
Run ioscan -fn > output.file and ensure that your new card is seen/claimed.
Run insf -e to help load up any drivers. And if necessary, load from CD. But more than likely insf -e will handle it.
Have fun..
