what core refers patch.

Good Morning:

I got a core from a xsession which resulted in a runaway process. When i ran what core it refered to a PHCO_24148. What does that mean. Can someone help please.

Run 'file' instead.
what gets SCCS identification information.
file determine file type and will identify the core file. That is which programm core dumped any "why". "Why" is only what signal it wentdoen with. This will not give you the solution, but is a start.

You could also run strings on the core file to give you some more information.

Also be aware this patch is now superceeded by PHCO_24723 but I would hold back and let us see the file core as Trond suggests.

Also what applications or processes were you running at the time of the core .... java involved at all ?

Actually, the latest patch is PHCO_25707.
