what has happened to my space ?

I had a mirrored LV which I needed unmirror change the size, set to non-strict allocation then remirror. The problem came when I tried to re-mirror, it said there wasnt enough space and the VG display says there is only a couple of hundred extents when I was expecting a couple of thousand becuase of the reclaimed extents from reducing the mirror. What happened to the space after I done an lvreduce -m 0 on the LV why didnt it show in a vgdisplay ?
