What I need (HW) to create one cluster?

I would like the components that I need to create one cluster with two servers.
One is a L1000 and the other a L1500

HBA??, what type are supported, and how many I need for each server??

Lans?? what type are supported, speed?, and how many I need for each server??

SW??

Hi,
I suppose you want to use MC/Service Guard.

You need one "ordinary" LAN and one LAN for the hartbeat. A two node cluster can also use serial ports for hartbeat but, a such configuration is perhaps intendet for test enviroments.

HBA depends on the disk system you plan to use. If SAN disks you can use any HP FC-HBA that is supported for your hardware.

Hi Carmen,

HBA any HP like tachyon 5158A or more recent 6795A will do, I even used JNIs mixed with tachyons.. (historical reason - HP limitation to 8luns at the time)

Lans? the speed is not a problem, its more how you configure your lans look at the SG documentation to be safe you would need 4 ports per server but you could do with 3...

For the heartbeat lan I would use a small hub and have a true dedicated lan...

I will tell about our cluster setup over here. May be helpful

Server : Two rp3410 Server ( HP-UX 11i)with
MCSG Version 11.16

Disk Station : HP DS2300 having four disks
of 73 GB configured shared mode

Network Cards: One GigaBit Network card and four 100 Mbps NICs.
Gigabit used for general network with standby lan configured in cluster ascii file
One of 100 Mbps card is used for Herabeat traffic having one 100Mbps NIC as standby.

Above are I think the minimum requirement ( Though there is no need for four NICs).

regarding the minimum software requirements.

Install MCSG
Have latest patch Bundles
MirrorUX ( Optional)


Then about the HBA . You can have the SCSI disk supported by that HBA. Better refer the Server documents came along with the server for the disks supported..
