I would like the components that I need to create one cluster with two servers.
One is a L1000 and the other a L1500
HBA??, what type are supported, and how many I need for each server??
Lans?? what type are supported, speed?, and how many I need for each server??
SW??
etc..
Thanks very much!!
Carmen.

see the following link for more information.
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/#ServiceGuard
the attached file is a good document for clustering.

Re: What I need (HW) to create one cluster?
I suppose you want to use MC/Service Guard.
You need one "ordinary" LAN and one LAN for the hartbeat. A two node cluster can also use serial ports for hartbeat but, a such configuration is perhaps intendet for test enviroments.
HBA depends on the disk system you plan to use. If SAN disks you can use any HP FC-HBA that is supported for your hardware.

Re: What I need (HW) to create one cluster?
HBA any HP like tachyon 5158A or more recent 6795A will do, I even used JNIs mixed with tachyons.. (historical reason - HP limitation to 8luns at the time)
Lans? the speed is not a problem, its more how you configure your lans look at the SG documentation to be safe you would need 4 ports per server but you could do with 3...
For the heartbeat lan I would use a small hub and have a true dedicated lan...
All the best

Re: What I need (HW) to create one cluster?
I will tell about our cluster setup over here. May be helpful
Server : Two rp3410 Server ( HP-UX 11i)with
MCSG Version 11.16
Disk Station : HP DS2300 having four disks
of 73 GB configured shared mode
Network Cards: One GigaBit Network card and four 100 Mbps NICs.
Gigabit used for general network with standby lan configured in cluster ascii file
One of 100 Mbps card is used for Herabeat traffic having one 100Mbps NIC as standby.
Above are I think the minimum requirement ( Though there is no need for four NICs).
regarding the minimum software requirements.
Install MCSG
Have latest patch Bundles
MirrorUX ( Optional)
Then about the HBA . You can have the SCSI disk supported by that HBA. Better refer the Server documents came along with the server for the disks supported..

SolutionYou need the following components for each server:
1) HP MC/ServiceGuard License and MirrorDisk/UX license
2) two internal disk drives
3) one LAN interface for heartbeat (built in Core I/O LAN may be used)
4) two LAN interfaces for cluster access (one primary and one standby)
the following LAN cards may be used in L1000 (rp5400) and L1500 (rp5430)
A5230A PCI 10/100Base-T LAN Adptr
A5506A PCI 4 Port 100Base-TX LAN Adapter
A5506B PCI 4 Port 100Base-TX LAN Adapter
A5838A PCI 2 Port 100Base-T 2 Port Ultra2 SCSI
A4926A 1000BaseSX PCI LAN Adapter (previous generation)
A4929A 1000BaseT PCI Gigabit Ethernet LAN (previous generation)
A6847A PCI 1000Base-SX Gigabit Ethernet Adpt (current generation)
A6825A PCI 1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet Adpt (current generation)
5) two SCSI or Fibre Channel interfaces for shared storage
the following SCSI cards may be used in L1000 (rp5400) and L1500 (rp5430)
A5149A Single Port Ultra 2 SCSI HBA PCI
A5150A Dual Port Ultra 2 SCSI, PCI bus
A5838A PCI 2 Port 100Base-T 2 Port Ultra2 SCSI
A6828A PCI Ultra160 SCSI Adapter
A6829A PCI Dual Channel Ultra160 SCSI Adapter
A7173A HP Dual Channel Ultra32O SCSI Adapter
the following FC cards may be used in L1000 (rp5400) and L1500 (rp5430)
A5158A 1 Port PCI 1Gb Fibre Channel Adapter
A6795A 1 Port PCI 2Gb Fibre Channel Adapter
A6826A PCI-X Dual Channel 2Gb Fibre Channel HBA
6) shared storage (SCSI of FC)
the following storage are supported in MC/ServiceGuard
SCSI:
HP StorageWorks ds2100
HP StorageWorks ds2300
HP StorageWorks msa30 MI
FC arrays:
HP StorageWorks msa1000 (one RAID controller only)
HP StorageWorks va7000 family
HP StorageWorks eva3000 and eva5000
HP StorageWorsk xp family
7) two FC switches in case of FC shared storage

Zygmunt
