T-600 with failed Seagate ST34371W drive. All Lv's were mirrored from another ST34371W drive. HP replaced it with an ST34371N (yes "N") drive, and ioscan shows the S/W state as "DIFF_HW" for this ST34371N - man on ioscan DIFF_HW means "software found does not match the associated software". What does this mean?
If you can focus your eyes far and straight enough ahead of yourself, you can see the back of your head.

Re: what is DIFF_HW in ioscan output
The 'software' I beleive is the driver associated with that device. The new drive, according to the model # is a single ended narrow device. The old drive was a wide device (as is all the other drives I assume). The question that I have is the controller and the other drives differential? If so then I am surprised that the system even stayed up. Usually the entire SCSI bus hangs and hangs or crashes the system. I would have the drive removed and replaced with a drive of the same interface type. The only explanation I can offer on the DIFF_HW is that the system expects a differential drive when if fact there is a SE drive there. Not sure on that last part.

Solution
This page should answer your question about the meaning of DIFF_HW:
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=c08d3d8e1a35dd476d/screen=ckiSearchResults
Basically you need to get HP out to replace the drive with one that is the CORRECT model. As far as I know there should not be any mix of drives with the N and W models.
Here is the spec page from Seagate for the ST34371W:

Here is the spec page from Seagate for the ST34371N:
