What is efs 520/tcp Extended file name server

Subject says it all:

What is efs 520/tcp Extended file name server

I can't seem to find any docs on what this tcp service provides. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,

Re: What is efs 520/tcp Extended file name server

HP Port Reference Guide:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5990-7252/5990-7252.pdf

And here is RFC for this service:
http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/protocol/rip.htm

Hope it helps.

Nope, no help :-( The only reference in the ports doc is that the port is well known. Same thing I get everywhere else.

520/UDP is what comes up in the second reference. I am concerned with 520/TCP.

Thanks anyway,

Hmm, why no help?

In the second link there is some nice explanation about what it means ....

Re: What is efs 520/tcp Extended file name server

This link:

http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/protocol/rip.htm

is a reference for 520/udp which is RIP.

I am interested in the 520/tcp protocol the extended file name server. I have searched in a lot of places and it has not been documented in any of them.

Re: What is efs 520/tcp Extended file name server

holy beep - okay that link was *really* redundant and long.

sorry :)

in short it said that in the mid-eighties someone at lucas arts created a strange file daemon for their macintosh clients and obviously he registered it with the IANA as everyone should.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

I did see the lucasfilm entry in a couple of places, unfortunately I didn't react on it.

Thank you,

It turned out to be some obscure Mac file system developed back in the 80's.
