Re: What is host id?

Hi Natis,

Here is explanation of host ID
The machine idenfication (ID) number is unique to each machine. This machine ID is a combination of the system model and the serial number that is set by the factory or by an HP Customer Engineer. Therefore, it cannot be moved to another system.

Refer to the setuname(2) man page for more information about the machine idenfication number.

When installing or changing the system board, it asks for model number and the serial number. The unique machine ID number is calculated by a special algorithm. This number is used in licensing and legally should not be duplicated on another machine.

#uname -i

Re: What is host id?

host id
do you mean:host name
see
man hosts

its name of a system in machine, there are lot of machines in a network, its easy to remember hostname rather than ip-address of machine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname
It's kind of fun to do the impossible
