What is steps of install the network printer in hp-ux 11iv2

We have a network printer which is ip-172.16.5.134, subnet-255.255.255.128 and gateway-172.16.5.129. We need to install this printer in the rx3600 hp-ux 11iv2 server. Which ip is- 172.16.48.61, subnet-255.255.255.0, gateway-172.16.48.6. The printer model is IR2018N(Cannon). Please provide the required steps for install this printer.

first you need to understand that there is a difference (in HPUX land) between the terms "network printer" and "remote printer"

A "network printer" is assumed to have a builtin network card (or be attached to an external print server) that supports the JetDirect protocol.

A "remote printer" is attached to some kind of printer server / remote system such at it is available, but it doesn't support JetDirect.

What little I've found on the ImageRunner seems to indicate that it is basically a souped-up copier that can be used for PCL5 printings. Doesn't indicate support for HP-UX, nor JetDirect. However, the information I found was very limited.

You may end up using the "remote print" option to a Windows Print Server.

If that is the route you have to take, be aware that the "remote print" model doesn't support much in the way of options.....

Dpwnload and swinstall hp11e134.sd. Then, in SAM select Printers and Plotters, LP spooler, Printers and Plotters, Add Printer / Plotter Connected to HP JetDiect....
option 1) Spooler Admin. / add printer ...
put in ip and select model .


This should do it.

As mentioned, there is a slight chance that this printer might possibly support JetDirect protocol in which case, the hppi program is the way to go. You can verify that the printer supports JetDirect protocol using the hpnpadmin program like this:

hpnpadmin -A 172.16.5.134

If it reports that it is a network printer, then it supports JetDirect protocol and you can use hppi to configure the printer. Otherwise, it is a dumb lpr/lpd printer using port 515 and you configure the printer with SAM. Before you try to configure it, you must contact tech support at Canon to ask for the internal printer name to be used for Unix systems. It is one of the 4 required items to configure the remote printer. The 4 items in SAM are:

1. local queue name (ie, prn2018)
2. remote printer IP (ie, 172.16.5.129)
3. remote printer name (ie, prn, text, raw, ...)
4. select BSD printer
