that today is running HP-UX 10.20 B.
The question is:
What is the best OS for this machine?
I looked at Openbsd, parisc-linux, hp-ux, what I'm not really sure about the best option (if it is Open source, better)
Another question: Do anyone now how to reorder the CD with the HP-UX from HP (My IT manager is looking for it everywhere, but we can't find the CD).
Thanks,
Diego Smalinsky.

Re: What is the best OS option for a HP K Class 9000 Server?
You can order and update if you are covered by the hp software contract. Try this link,
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/swd/bin/doc.pl/sid=d3ea1d87146d4a0964/screen=SWHandles
I think you should look for 11.0/11i 32/64 bit on this box.
Hope this helps.

The best bet is to try 64 Bit HPUX 11.00, don't remember if a K will handle 11i even thought I don't think it would be a problem.

Re: What is the best OS option for a HP K Class 9000 Server?
I'd shy away from pa-linux on the K, because some IO cards don't work because HP hasn't documented how the work.
Stick to HPux on the K. How much memory and disk do you have? Look into 11i/64bit.

Re: What is the best OS option for a HP K Class 9000 Server?
It has 256mb RAM and 1 100 Mhz PA-Risc proc.
I've checked the Hardware Support page for HP-UX 11.0 but it seems that my system is not supported.
Do anyone happen to know how much does it cost (the CD with software utils and the OS)
Thanks for everyone on their support.
Diego.

Solutionhow can we tell what the best OS is?? Maybe, it would be easier to give an answer on the question what the worst OS is (though the world's richest man is earning his money with that OS).
I, personally, would say HP-UX is the best OS, since I'm experienced in that, and I really like it. The other point is support. In my opinion, HP gives in most cases very good and high quality support in HP-UX. Patch organisation is very good and very simple, today. I do not know, how these points are solved in OpenBSD or PARISC-Linux. But, keep in mind, good support is a must.
If you have a support contract, HP should send you an installation CD, since they should know, that you have a license for it. If you have no support contract, your HP representative will sell you a CD.
If you have a running HP-UX box, you can use Ignite-UX, to install another system, without any CD.

As you already have 10.20 loaded, I am sure that you can load 11.00 OR 11i "32 bit" versions. For the CDs and prices, you may contact your local HP office.

It looks you have an old server , the best would be to load HPUX 11.00 32 bit , but the same would require more system resources etc etc.
