Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
idisk /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0
"s2" is already the second partition, not the disk itself
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
It worked. But I have a doubt regarding the partition details. when I issue following command on my machine
ioscan -funC disk
I am getting the result as follows
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
============================================================================
disk 0 0/0/2/0.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-N
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
disk 1 0/1/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373454LC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk 2 0/1/1/0.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373454LC
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0 /dev/dsk/c2t1d0s2 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s2
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0s1 /dev/dsk/c2t1d0s3 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s1 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s3
what exactly /dev/dsk/*** and /dev/rdsk/*** mean?

Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
c=controllor
t=terminal /target
d=disk
s=slice
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0 -> disk has been sliced with 3 slices that why you see
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0s1 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s1
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0s2 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s2
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0s3 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0s3

Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
There are many highly detailed explanations available on the net.
About volume groups:
Use
# vgdisplay -v ...
to get information about the volume group (including LVOLs).
With this information get closer to the LVOLS:
# lvdisplay -v /dev/vgxx/lvolx
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
only boot disks on integrity systems have these partitions.
normal disks used for storage just use volume groups and logical volume groups, just as boot disks on PA risc servers.
but the partitions are as Torsten stated not your example

Re: what is the hp-ux command to get disk partition details?
No points please: only correcting the last post.
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs1|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs2|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs3|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
please replace these with
diskinfo -b /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs1|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
diskinfo -b /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs2|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
diskinfo -b /dev/rdsk/cXtYDZs3|awk '{ print $1 /1024}'
