What is the max distance between nodes in SG env. ?
Can someone tell me what the maximum distance between nodes in a two node cluster can be achieved ? I thought it was 50M with SCSI and 500M with Fibre Channel, is this right???? And as I remember both machines have to also be on the same subnet, is this right too ????
Better to regret something you have done, than something you havn't

Re: What is the max distance between nodes in SG env. ?
The maximum distance at this point is 2 KM for datacenter distance, and
moving up to 10 KM. This is all with fibre channel.
By the way, FW scsi has a maximum cable length of 25 meter.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: What is the max distance between nodes in SG env. ?
It is better to have the cluster on the same subnet mask. The FastWide scsi has a maximum cable length of 25.

Re: What is the max distance between nodes in SG env. ?
Node separation in an Mc/SG cluster is dependant on various issues.
If the discs are SCSI connections, you are limited to a MAX length of 25metres for Fast/Wide SCSI, bearing in mind this includes internal cableing in disc cabinets etc.
If you are using FibreChannel disc connectivity, this is between 2Km and 10Km dependant upon the quality of the Fibre cables, and using HP FC equipment.
This starts to enter the arena of what is known as a Campus Cluster where nodes are spread across a campus or site.
If you go further than that, you need MetroCluster, where you either use EMC arrays, with SRDF, or XP256/512 arrays, with Continuous Access/XP software, which takes you to about 43km distance.
In all of the above, the nodes MUST be on the same subnet, with no routers involved.
One step further takes you onto Continental Cluster, but that is not applicable here.
