Solution
Hi,
Media recovery (in an Oracle context) means that not all the datafiles on disk are consistent. You need to "play back" the logfiles (those archived on tape or those still "online" on disk) to get the datafiles to the latest consistent point.
The "Media" actually refers to the fact that the datafiles are on a disk.
