Re: What software to use to inventory my systems?
There is no complete answer. OS software, patches and HP add ins are managed by software distributor, known as sd/ux
swlist -l product
This will provide a complete inventory of that segment. It's possible to provide remote access and tie the systems together to some degree to get inventory information. In general, I use password free secure shell (openssh).
Products such as Oracle are not distributed in sd/ux depot format, and there is no really reliable way to inventory binaries such as this. We have managed to repackage Oracle into a tar format which if we wished would let us distribute it as a depot, but we've not taken that step.
http://www.hp.com/go/swa provides some tools that might help you.

Re: What software to use to inventory my systems?
various tools from HP are here for what you need
http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/286022-0-0-225-121.html
The Nickel script is a good one as it will list everything you need i'm sure. Generates a HTML file with all info s/ware and h/ware installed and configured
The sysinfo tool may also be useful

Solutionhttp://come.to/cfg2html
Basically, run that say once a month on each system, and use scp to store it on a central documentation server (I use mambo/joomla for documentation). Create say a directory under your document root - say something like "server-files" then you can browse these with any web browser.
As a tip, remove the following lines to get rid of the annoying pop up that the author setup:
/opt/cfg2html/plugins/head02.html

Re: What software to use to inventory my systems?
I would recommend you try on our System insight Manager (HP SIM), this is part of VSE component to manage your system inventory.

I'm really encourage to take a look on this.
As this is part of VSE.
