SolutionNot quite sure if I understood your question. When you logon to CDE, DISPLAY variable is automatically set by the dtlogin process. But if you are doing a remote login, then you will need to explicitly set the DISPLAY variable.

which I guess will be Bourne shell compatibles.
However your users that favour C shell compatibles should also have a look at
/etc/csh.login
and in their HOME at
.login
or even
.cshrc
