when i first finished install hpux 11.0,i can't find where it set DISPLAY

but the CDE is work well,
i want to know where the system get the $DISPLAY 'S value

Hi,

Not quite sure if I understood your question. When you logon to CDE, DISPLAY variable is automatically set by the dtlogin process. But if you are doing a remote login, then you will need to explicitly set the DISPLAY variable.

env | grep DISPLAY
the above command show you the value of DISPLAY^^

DISPLAY is set in one of two places usually.

/etc/profile

/home/username/.profile

Steven is right for most of the login shells,
which I guess will be Bourne shell compatibles.
However your users that favour C shell compatibles should also have a look at
/etc/csh.login
and in their HOME at
.login
or even
.cshrc
