when someone accessed

how can I find out when a file was last accessed? just a read or an execute date for an object.

Hi:

# ls -ul filename

...returns the last access timestamp.

i only get the last access time as feb 2, current

so now it give s only the NOW time what could i be doing wrong?

Hi (again):

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you expect. If you read or execute a file, the lastaccess timestamp ('mtime' as reported by 'ls -ul') is updated to reflect that.

Some backup utilities will reset the lastaccess timestamp to what it was before the backup (copy/read), but otherwise, the above applies.
