whence Netscape and LDAP under HP-UX?
A planning question: we're looking into implementing ldap under hp-ux; according to all the documentation/depots, this uses Netscape Directory Server 6.11 (which apparently is now owned by AOL???)
Anyone know the future direction/support for Netscape Directory Server? I thought that much of Netscape went to iPlanet then to SunOne.
Can anyone speak to whether this path is a near-future dead end (forcing a $$ purchase of SunOne) or a viable solution moving forward?
Comments from HP particularly welcome.
Thanks!

Re: whence Netscape and LDAP under HP-UX?
Netscape was purchased by AOL several years ago, and is now integrated into the AOL-Time Warner Empire.
Work has continued on its products.
Here is a document on how to do LDAP integration with Netscape Directory Server.
It should answer your question.

Re: whence Netscape and LDAP under HP-UX?
Have you looked at OpenLDAP, the freeware version of the same thing: http://www.openldap.org/
There's a pre-compiled version at:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Networking/Misc/openldap-2.1.3/
As far as the SunOne vs AOL/Netscape thing goes, it is pretty confusing. IPlanet was an alliance between Sun and Netscape which ended, then Netscape was bought by AOL (or something like that). Both Sun and AOL/Netscape somehow ended up with the source code and are selling their own different versions of the same product. Its anyones guess as to what the long term support plans are!
Regards,
Steve
