Where is xvg available?

xvg is a GUI program for LVM configuration, or at least display. While I've always liked command line for serious work or scripting, it would be nice to view the configuration via GUI.

Where is it available? There is hardly any mention of it anywhere.

Re: Where is xvg available?

Unfortunately, the primary link for the HP Response Center ftp site (hprc.external.hp.com) is no longer working and the backup link: ftp://hpfrcu03.france.hp.com/pub/paulo.tar.gz is also non-functional. I will inquire as to what has changed.

What can it do that you can't do in 'sam'?

Re: Where is xvg available?

Xvg is the best graphical display there is for LVM. Unlike SAM, it doesn't make any changes, but it displays the logical volumes and physical volumes in various size relationships as pictures. You can easily how badly fragmented your extended lvols are, and flag any lvols that cross physical volumes. You can see mirroring and even see incorrect mirroring (lvols mirrored out of order) and unassigned space. If you look carefuly at vgdisplay, lvdisplay and pvdisplay (-v option) you could figure all this out given enough time. But as they say: A picture is worth two dozen LVM display commands (or words to that effect). Xvg requires an Xwindow display.

Re: Where is xvg available?

The hprc ftp site is back again. It was disabled due to excessive failed logins. The URL for Xvg is:

ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/sysadmin/xvg

You can browse the entire library at:

ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/

NOTE: This is not an http site (no web server), it is an ftp-only site so the URL starts with ftp. Also, the login and password are included in the above URL, but when most newer browsers display the URL, their internal security will hide the login:password@ portion. So if you copy the URL into a document (like ITRC), be sure to include the contrib:9unsupp8 portion. You can also access this site with plain old ftp.
