Where to use swinstall/swpackage?

1. For automating the packaging and deployment of the application, can swinstall/swpackage of HP-UX be used?
2. In the past, have 3rd parties and/or enterprise applications used swinstall/swpackage to package/deploy their software?

In the past (long time back) I have used swinstall/swpackage. Recently one of the admins claimed that the new swinstall/swpackage is used only for HP products or for products HP support. I did not believe it. Wanted to get a confirmation.

Sure, otherwise why document swpackage?
