You mean the like the SR5 (software raid5) that is available for Linux ? I don't think there's any software at all that would do Raid 5 in HP-UX. The overhead involved at the OS level to implement Raid 5 is much too complex, usually done at the hardware level (eg: 12H AutoRaid). The closest software Raid level you would get in HP-UX using LVM is Raid0/1 (ie stripping and mirroring). You can strip your disks in LVM and mirror them. That's in the doc that Steven pointed out.

I believe that this actually can be done on HP-UX 11.11 (11i) with the full version of the Veritas Volume Manager softwre (VxVM). As far as I know the base VxVM that comes with 11i will not support this but I THINK that the full version will.

At this point I can't find any supporting information on HP's or Veritas' web sites, but I am pretty sure I heard or read at one time that VxVM supported software RAID 5.

Hi,

It's not the limitation of HPUX, it's limitation of volume manager(LVM). HP Unix LVM doesn't support raid-5 but you can use veritas Volume manager which support Raid-5.

Veritas volume manager is a completly different product then HP-UX LVM. It support software RAID but at a cost that I think it is a better choice to buy a cheap hardware RAID box.

Veritas support OS level RAID 5, HP 11i support Veritas, but you need a seperate license ( as of my knowledge).
