Dear Gurus
I need your assistance:
Well I have a clarification and hope you will help as we are trying to replace the backbone switch.
The cluster file is as follows = the network
NODE_NAME dbprod1
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan1
HEARTBEAT_IP 10.10.10.1 [ private lan]
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan0
HEARTBEAT_IP 555.55.1.50
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan3
FIRST_CLUSTER_LOCK_PV /dev/dsk/c5t0d3
# List of serial device file names
# For example:
# SERIAL_DEVICE_FILE /dev/tty0p0
# Possible standby Network Interfaces for lan1: lan2.
# Possible standby Network Interfaces for lan0: lan3.
NODE_NAME dbprod2
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan1
HEARTBEAT_IP 10.10.10.2 [ private lan]
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan0
HEARTBEAT_IP 555.55.1.51
NETWORK_INTERFACE lan3
FIRST_CLUSTER_LOCK_PV /dev/dsk/c5t0d3
# List of serial device file names
# For example:
# SERIAL_DEVICE_FILE /dev/tty0p0
The Primary and the Secondary network cards are connected to seperate switches. These switches are connected to a single backbone switch.
My hearbeat is on a seperate private lan and is not on the production network that is in discussion.
What would be the effect of the following scenario on my cluster : [ Like would the server reboot - toc etc]
1. If one of the switches is disconnected from the core switch..
2. If both switches are disconnected from the core switch
3. If my core backbone itself fails.
Would greatly appreciate your response on this.
best regards
M.Faizer Jameel

Solution
If the heartbeat is on a private lan, so long as that switch/hub whatever does not fail, you will not TOC.
If that switch fails, or either NIC fails, you will get a TOC of at least one node.
You are not limited to one heartbeat. You can provide youself more resiliancey by having a secondary heartbeat or using a quorum server.
This assumes that itmes 123 at the bottom do not involve the private lan running the heartbeat in any way.

Re: Will my Cluster TOC
1. Nothing happens . A local lan failover to standy lan happens for the primary lan conencted to the disconnetcted switch . If the standy goes in t hat switch , then MCSG will log that error in switch log .
But no TOC/Reboot , package failover happens .
2.TOC will happen since on both the nodes there will be no interfaces to switch/bind to . Even though heartbeat is intact and there is no cluster reformation , then nodes will TOC to prevent corruption .
3.Nothin happens as long as the direct attached switches are available .
But no TOC/Reboot , package failover happens .

Re: Will my Cluster TOC
1) You may see the package fail over either to another lan card or the other machine.
It would go to the other machine if this change caused the package to detect not just a lan card being down but the "subnet" being marked down.
2) I suspect that if your packages use the network that they would try to switch machines and then would fail to come up, but there would be no TOC.
3) Same as #2
