Will Samba 3.0.x work on 11.00 ???

I'm having no luck on getting Samba 3.0.x running on 11.0. I can compile and link the binaries and the sbin smbd and nmbd seem to function but all the bin utils, like net, core dump and complain about dld.so.
I have it working on 11.i, RedHat Linux and Solaris 2.6 but having no luck on 11.00.

Is it even possible? I've seen no talk on forums or even google on anything relating 11.00 to Samba 3.0.x.

HP has specifically chosen not to offer its Samba 3.0.x for 11.00

I can only conclude on that basis that if you can't get it to compile and work on 11.00 you are probably out of luck.

There are probably issues between the OS and system.

You might try copying the 11i binaries over. Thats a shot in the dark, but it just might work. Or show you why HP didn't port it to 11.00

11i v1 upgrade seems to be called for.

I tried that too. Its the same the sbin binaries will respond but the bin binaries core dump and I need the net command to authenticate into our domain.

Hi,

i did a short search at www.samba.org and found the following readme:

http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/hp/samba-3.0.10/readme.txt

In this readme HP-UX 11.00 and 11.11 are mentioned as valid platforms.

Perhaps you should give this depot a try. Download it here:

Thanx for the find. All I cound dig up for binaries was the 11.11. I'll give it a try and hope for the best.

Still a no go:

Something's out of date... This is an old loadset and hasn't been patched for some time. The Samba3.0.x was a bandaid for a couple of months until we get producers apps onto superdome partition with 11.i. Anything I could look at that isn't going to get too deep since its going away soon. The reason I'm pushing 3.0.x is the windoze monkeys merged to win server 2003 and needs domain authentication instead of server....

this sounds like one of the required libraries is missing. Do you have the requirements installed as mentioned in the readme?

1. Required libraries.

HP-UX 11.00 only:

If you don't HAVE to have Samba 3.0 I would suggest using CIFS which comes with the OS. It will give you the same functionality. But a different version. (CIFS is buildt on Samba.)

Well I couldn't find OpenLdap 2.1.3 or equiv. for 11.00 so I took a leap of faith and re-compiled 3.0.10 with
configure --without-ldap

and it finally worked !!!!

Since we will not be using LDAP until this box is gone I think we'll be OK until we can get this box moved to a SD partition with 11.i
