will samba allow me to mount NT folders on server?

Hi, all. I apologize if this has been answered before, but I didn't see it when I searched for it.
What I have is my server and 6 NT stations, plus potentially a few win98. I have some other software that I use to map /home to the NT stations, and another module that mounts two folders from each NT to the server, like d:\temp to /engpro1/temp. this software kinda sucks, and I want to move to something else. I hear everyone talking about Samba, so I figure why not? I was looking at the documentation, and it seems straight forward to map UNIX to NT, but I didn't see any references to doing it the other way around (NT to UNIX). Is this possible? Are others doing it? If not, I can work around it, but I'd really like to do this. Please let me know. Thanks!

Re: will samba allow me to mount NT folders on server?

Hi Mark:

There is a smbclient for UNIX that allows ftp-like transfers from/to NT boxes but I don't think that the smbfs (which is what you want) has been ported to HP-UX. Plan B is to install an NFS server on your NT/W2k boxes. One that I
currently use is Omni-NFS from http://www.xlink.com.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: will samba allow me to mount NT folders on server?

Mark,

Get HP's CIFS9000 product, they have a samba client that works great for a HPux server mounting an NT share, and the samba server side for NT's mounting HPux filesystems.

client:

server:

Re: will samba allow me to mount NT folders on server?

Thanks, guys. I'll take a read through the manuals and see if I can actually figure out how to install and configure it (I'm always wary of new software; "it's no problem to install" are famous last words...) :) Hopefully it will work great. Thanks.

Re: will samba allow me to mount NT folders on server?

Mark,

The install is brain dead because it is a depot, it's the configuration that's complicated. For the HP server mounting an NT, it's easy, the server side is a little more involved.

Harry-

Thanks for the warning. I'll have to find myself a nice corner somewhere and take a shot at the book. Joy.
