Windows xp clients unable to join domain using Bind9 DNS Server
Greetings;
I am unable to get my Windows XP clients join my domain.
Here's what I got the first time I tried to join a Windows XP machine to my domain.
DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain mydomain.com:
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.mydomain.com
The following domain controllers were identified by the query:
dc.mydomain.com
Common causes of this error include:
- Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.
- Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.
Which is not the case. A nslookup on the Xp box is resolving the dns and the domain name, the query for A record of the domain name is resolved.
Here are my versions;
HP UX 11iv3
Bind 9
HP-UX Directory Server Version 8.1
Windows xp sp2
What do I need to change in order my win xp join the domain. If you require any additional information, please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Windows xp clients unable to join domain using Bind9 DNS Server
Steve,
Have you ever considered to install CIFS on this server and make a domain with this CIFS server as the PDC?
This isn't LDAP based but is known to work.
Hans.
