wireless printer wont work on N4000

I am trying to get a wireless printer (Zebra QL-320) to work with our N4000, running HPUX 11.0. I have set up numerous other (wired) Zebra printers with JetDirect ports without problems - as a dumb printer. When using jetadmin, this printer can't be pinged, due to a long response from the printer (It can be pinged from the OS, with a response time of around 100ms), but I proceed with the setup. Any jobs submitted stay in the print queue and the printer doesn't ever print. I have tried enable/disable, starting and stopping printer services, etc but nothing happens. Can anyone tell me how to make his work?

Re: wireless printer wont work on N4000

The 100ms ping times should not be a problem because that is certainly in the range of WAN connected JetDirect devices -- which work just fine and dandy. My best guess is that ports 9100 and 9101 are blocked by a firewall. Are you able to telnet to the printer?

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Can I telnet to it? I think so - I get:

#telnet 10.2.13.110
trying...
connected to 10.2.13.110
escape character is...
local control flow off

although I don't know what to say to the printer after that...
Also: This printer is able to print from MS windows print queues.

Thanks

Re: wireless printer wont work on N4000

Okay Dave, I think it's time to be clear. Is a JetDirect involved at all or are you using an internal wireless LAN card for your Zebra? I was making the assumption since you mentioned JetDirect that this was a wireless LAN card connected to an external JetDirect that was linked to the printer via a parallel or serial cable. If this is an internal card then your only hope is to set this up as a remote (as opposed to a network printer). You would need to check the Zebra documentation to make sure that the network card supports the lpd protocol and what the name of the port is. That port name becomes the print queue on the remote host (the card).
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Thanks for suggestions - I did in fact set it up as a remote printer and I now get output - though there are issues with how it looks. I think that issue is a problem for the software folks.

Hi Dave,

Have you ever gotten this working at all. I am having exactly the same situation as you are. And not sure what the solution will be.

Thanks,
Lily
