With remsh getting "permission denied"

I am trying to remsh to a Red Hat 7.1 linux system. When I try it I get "permission denied". I can however rsh to the HP-UX system.
The hostname is in .rhosts.

Re: With remsh getting "permission denied"

Hi Monica,

did you try to do the remsh-command as root? RH7.1 does not allow a remote root- login with remsh per default. But you should be able to do a remsh for a different user and then make a switch user to root without problems. And that is for reasons of security the better way.

allways stay on the bright side of life!

Re: With remsh getting "permission denied"

Hi Monica,

If there are no other security concerns over here, edit /etc/hosts.equiv file (if required create one) and put the entry like this,

server1
server2

These servers are then allowed access to this system without being asked for a password.

Hope this helps.
