Wrap Plug test for SAN disks connectivity on HP-UX Servers
Hello,
We have Virtualized and non-Virtualized RX6600 model HP-UX Servers running HP-UX 11.23 and 11.31.
They are connected to SAN disks through fibre channel switches.
In case we get SAN disks issue then what are steps to perform Wrap Plug test on HBA on Server Side and Switch Side.
Thanks,
Shiv

Re: Wrap Plug test for SAN disks connectivity on HP-UX Servers
I'm not familiar with "Wrap Plug test", but if you're looking for diagnostic tools to test system to SAN connectivity, this what I would do. I would first check in the Volume manager level, then if there's a problem, proceed to next level down. Then if there's a problem there, proceed to next level down, etc.
1. Check first in Volume Manager level. If using LVM, it will show "Unable to connect to physical volume..."
a. LVM
# vgdisplay -v
b. VxVm
# vxdisk list
2. Verify overall hardware connectivity, if a problem exist, then it will show NO_HW in status
# ioscan -funC disk
3. To check F/C cards on the system, use fcmsutil and fcdlist. There are options available in fcmsutil to do loopback test, as well as reset the F/C card. Do a man on fcmsutil for details.
4. If you're suspecting the problem is on the switch side:
a. Brocade - you can use "switchshow", and "portshow [<SlotNumber>/]<PortNumber>"

What kind of issue?
What is a " Wrap Plug test "?
However, "fcmsutil" and "scsimgr" are good tools to get more information from server side.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
