Writing a boot cd

Hi,

I've just setup an ignite server following the HP Ignite Admin guide.

I have a lot of j class servers I'm going to be sending around Europe, what I want to do is to send a set of cds with them that will allow the local admins to just boot from the cd and it'll install and configure the systems to how we want them.

I have followed the guide and created an image. The first one I created was about 1.2GB, so I removed the patches (and was going to put them onto a second cd) and tried again, 1.1GB, removed the software so only the os was left, still 1.1GB. Me thinks that this is not going to fit onto a cd.

Has anyone else successfully created a cd that will actually fit?

Anyone got any ideas where I'm going wrong, if at all.

I know the answer to this is put it onto a tape but a lot of the systems don't have a tape drive.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Colin.

Hi

Question 7

7-1 How do I create bootable Ignite-UX media with my configs on it? (v1.09)

In order to create a bootable CD, that contains the golden system images, you will need the make_medialif and instl_combine commands shipped with Ignite-UX. make_medialif packages up the Ignite-UX components from an Ignite-UX server into a LIF volume that can be put onto a tape or CD-ROM. instl_combine is used to combine a LIF and a file system image into one image for use with CDs.

Imake_medialif only deals with making the LIF area of the media. It does not deal with putting the Image archives (or SD depots) onto the media.

Re: Writing a boot cd

Steve,

Thats what I done. What I don't understand is why is the image so big? Too big for a cd in fact?

Colin.

Re: Writing a boot cd

I guess Question 7-5 answers my question. Seems a funny way to have to do it though.

I might have to try and find some tape drives!

Cheers,
Colin.
