X terminal

X terminal

I want to replace a few NCD X terminals. Looking at HP web site, I can find thin client with ICA and RDP protocols but nothing with Xwindow.
I would prefer a dedicated X terminal instead of a PC with X emulator.
What do you suggest?
What do you use?

Re: X terminal

We have hp workstations , they have X windows build in.

I am surprised to hear they are not selling them anymore.

What about 2hand ?

Nothing.

I've heard that many people use a Linux
system which is configured to do little else.

A Google search for "X-terminal" finds many
things (at least some of which look useful).

Re: X terminal

i believe you will find honest-to-goodness real live dedicated x-terminals have gone the way of the gooney bird. most started disappearing off the market in the late 90's, being replaced by software products such as Reflection/X or Exceed running on PCs. The logic was that PCs are prevalent in the workplace, so having a dedicated, single purpose xterminal sitting next to a desktop pc didn't make sense.

Re: X terminal

I typically use Cygwin http://www.cygwin.com on PCs and have been thoroughly satisfied. The only "gotcha" is that you want to make sure you've got gobs of video memory as well as main RAM, for all the graphics stuff Cygwin does under X.

As OldSchool said, X Terminals have gone the way of Betamax VCRs and 8-track tapes.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Xterminals disappeared but thin clients for
Windows (using RDP or ICA) appeared.
Similar concept, similar form factor.

If there is a market for such a device why
can't HP provide a X option on them?
