Hi,
1. I want to share my Xwindows desktop of HP workstation across another workstation in remote location.
both of them are connected through a WAN link but in between firewall existing.
using sharedX i am able to share the screen with in LAN.
2. I am unable to start the Xwindows of remote workstations connected through WAN and in between firewall but i am able to start the Xwindows of other workstation within LAN using "X -query in command line login.
Now if any one know please let me know what port has to be enabled in the firewall to carry out Xwindows sharing across WAN. also let me know which port is used for "SahredX" and "Xwindows" services across netork.
from /etc/services i came to know that sharedX uses port 7815. and X11 server uses 6000.
regards
Vijay

Re: X windows acroos WAN
Ports 6000, 177 and 7000 are usually the most common used by X :
however take a look at DOC ID : X11KBAN00000369, it refers to Low Bandwidth X which may prove interesting to you ?

Re: X windows acroos WAN
Hi,
X11 uses port 6000 for display :0, port 6001 for display :1, ...
And remember than the XServer is the PC, so you must allow in the firewall connections from the HP-UX server's IP and any port to the PC's IP and port 6000, 6001, 6002 (the displays that you use)
Best regards
Juan Gonzalez
