x windows

Is it possible to get the x windows gui that runs on our HP9000 800 hpux10.20 to run on a windows 2000 server to allowing the administration to take place on the 2000 machine instead of the HP console?
What's that smell?

Re: x windows

Hi Jason,

you can use Reflection X or Hummingbird exceed to get the CDE on your Windows console. You can download a trial copy of reflection X which is valid for 60 days from the wrq site.

http://www.wrq.com

Hope this helps.

Re: x windows

Another option is you can install a secure web console on the server and the admin portion of it can be done from any web browser on any pc. It's really easy to install. It's not X, but it makes the admin job much easier.

just a thought ..

Re: x windows

Hi Jason,

some other ways to see X-clients on your PC:
- VNC (Virtual Network Computing) at http://www.orl.co.uk/vnc
- CygWin (GNU stuff under Windows, includes an X11 server) at http://www.cygwin.com

Both are free and stable.

Re: x windows

With the right terminal emulator (emulating an HP terminal), Xwindows gets to be very tedious, especially over a slow LAN or a modem. The WRQ terminal emulator: Reflection for HP is the best, and there are others (including freeware). vt100 emulators will be cumbersome to use. The response time and low network bandwidth for SAM and swinstall make these tools ideal as character mode utilities.
