X11 and DISPLAY problem
I know this is an HP forum and not an ORACLE forum, but bear with me because I feel this is a HPUX problem/configuration issue. Note also that I am not an X11/CDE/VUE expert.
I am atempting to install ORACLE 9i. I exported the Display for my local desktop (Hummingbird Exceed) as "export DISPLAY={ip}:0.0. I then execute the installer as "./runInstaller". At this point I receive the following:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall2003-11-05_11-25-08AM/jre/bin/java. Please wait...
X connection to {IP}:0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
Now, at first I thought this was a dt problem. I checked the process queue and got this:
root 1151 1 0 11:21:19 ? 0:00 /sbin/sh /usr/dt/bin/dtrc
root 1168 1151 0 11:21:19 ? 0:00 /usr/dt/bin/dtlogin
So, that doesn't appear to be the problem. I then checked for the X11 processes and got this:
root 928 1 0 11:20:26 ? 0:00 /usr/bin/X11/xfs -config /etc/X11/fs/config -port 7000 -daemon
root 1006 1 0 11:20:34 ? 0:00 /usr/bin/X11/SLSd_daemon
root 1068 1 0 11:20:44 ? 0:01 /usr/bin/X11/X :10 -ac -fbdir /var/X11/Xserver
So, those are running too.
I have another server (near identical) that this works on. I just can't figure out why this doesn't work.
Signed - confused!

Re: X11 and DISPLAY problem
I'm not sure what the issue is.
Try adding this line to /etc/profile unless you use openspool
DISPLAY=$(who -m -u | awk '{print $8}'):0.0
export DISPLAY
Attaching my xvfb configuration file. It might help.
